When most people think of infrared lamps in a bathroom, they just think of that cozy, warm feeling on their skin. But for us, these lamps are doing a lot more than just keeping you warm. We actually treat them as tools to fight mold. See, mold loves those tiny, porous spots in your tiles and grout where moisture likes to hide. That’s exactly what we’re targeting.
How we actually get rid of the damp
Here’s the thing: most heaters just warm up the air. That’s fine, but it doesn’t do much for the walls. Our lamps use short-wave infrared radiation. Instead of heating the room, the energy goes straight into the water molecules trapped in your surfaces. It basically pushes the moisture out, forcing it to evaporate before it has a chance to soak deep into the wall. It keeps the surface temperature just high enough so that condensation never even starts. And if there’s no standing water, mold spores have nowhere to land. Simple as that.
Getting the heat just right
Finding the sweet spot with these lamps is a bit of an art. If the wattage is too low, you get a nice glow, but the walls stay damp. If it’s too high, you risk overheating the whole fixture. We spend a lot of time tuning the emitters so they hit the specific “absorption bands” of water. We want the energy spent drying out your bathroom, not just making the air feel like a sauna.
A quick heads-up on installation
You can’t just toss these into any ceiling and call it a day. The gap between the lamp and your ceiling is a big deal. If you mount one too close to a cheap PVC ceiling, the heat can actually warp the plastic or set off your fire alarms. Not ideal. Make sure the fixture has room to breathe. I always suggest checking the thermal rating of your ceiling material before you start wiring. And if you’re going for a tight, recessed look, just remember that the surrounding structure is going to soak up more heat. Plan for that.
