
Why We Use Explosion-Proof Quartz in Your Bathroom Heater
Bathrooms are kind of a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got steam everywhere, wild temperature swings, and electricity—all in one small, wet room. We use explosion-proof quartz glass in our infrared heaters for one simple reason: we don’t want your heater to shatter if a bit of cold water splashes onto a hot element.
The “Thermal Shock” Problem
Here is the deal with standard quartz. It’s great until it isn’t. Imagine a tube running at 800°C. Now imagine a single drop of cold water hitting it. That spot cools down instantly while the rest of the glass is still screaming hot. That sudden tension creates a stress point, and if the glass isn’t built for it, it just pops. To stop that from happening, we mix special additives into the quartz while it’s still molten. It makes the glass way more resilient. So, if a few splashes hit the heater, it just keeps humming along.
How the Heat Actually Works
These heaters use short-wave infrared radiation. We stick with high-purity quartz because it lets the heat pass right through the glass without heating the glass itself. The result? The warmth hitsyou, not the fixture. Inside, we’ve coiled the heating filament just right so the power stays consistent from end to end. It’s fast. Really fast. You’ll usually feel the peak heat in under three seconds.
A Few Tips for Installation
If you’re swapping these into a wall mount, they’re pretty much a drop-in fit. But please,seal your electrical terminals. If you leave the wiring open to the steam, you’re going to deal with corrosion and burn-outs. It doesn’t matter how good the quartz tube is if the wiring is rotting away. One last thing: “explosion-proof” doesn’t mean “indestructible.” If you smash the tube with a hammer or dunk the whole thing in a bucket of ice water while it’s on full blast, it’s going to break. Just make sure you mount the heater where it won’t be getting blasted directly by the shower stream, and it’ll last you a long time.
