
Stop the Bathroom Damp: Why Infrared Actually Works
Most bathroom heaters just warm up the air. That’s fine if you’re cold, but it doesn’t actually fix the moisture problem. In fact, warming the air while your walls stay cold is exactly how you get condensation. We do things differently. We use short-wave infrared (IR) emitters. Instead of fighting with the air, these lamps go straight for the surfaces. They hit your tiles and walls directly.
Drying things out from the inside
Here is the trick: we tune these lamps to a specific wavelength (between 0.76 and 1.5 $\mu$m). This lets the heat soak right into the surface of your wet walls. Once that surface warms up, the water evaporates fast. It’s a simple way to stop mold before it even gets a chance to settle in. You’re basically using physics to keep the spores away.
The gear under the hood
We don’t cut corners on the materials. We use high-purity quartz glass because it can handle being flipped on and off constantly without cracking under the pressure. Inside, the filaments are filled with halogen. This lets them run hotter and last a lot longer than your average bulb. We also use R7s snap-in connectors. Why? Because if a bulb eventually goes, you want to be able to swap it out in seconds, not spend an afternoon wrestling with wiring. Plus, we kept the whole unit small so it tucks neatly into your ceiling.
A few things to keep in mind
Now, these lamps are powerful. They provide instant heat, but that also means they can create some pretty intense hotspots. If you mount them too low, it’s going to feel like you’re standing under a heat lamp at a buffet. You have to pick the right wattage for the size of your room so the heat feels comfortable, not oppressive. And just a heads-up: this isn’t a replacement for your exhaust fan. The IR lamp handles the moisture sitting on your walls, but you still need that fan to push the damp air out of the house.
