
Stop Scrubbing Your Bathroom Walls
Most people think those bathroom heat lamps are just there to keep you from shivering while you get dressed. But we built these things to do something way more useful. They actually fight mold by using the infrared spectrum to dry out your bathroom before the mildew even has a chance to move in. Here is the secret: most heaters just warm up the air. That actually creates a sort of humid “blanket” that traps dampness right against your cold tiles. Not great. We do things differently. We use short-wave and medium-wave infrared radiation. Instead of heating the air, these waves send energy straight into your walls and floors. When your tiles stay warm, water can’t settle on them. It just doesn’t happen. Mold is picky. It needs spores, something to eat, and—most importantly—constant moisture. We just take away the water. The radiant heat basically pushes water molecules off your ceiling and walls. It makes evaporation happen fast. Instead of sitting around waiting for a noisy vent fan to slowly suck out the dampness, the infrared energy kicks the moisture into the air so your fan can get rid of it quickly. Now, you can’t just blast the heat and call it a day. If you run these lamps too hot for too long, you might scorch your paint or melt some of those cheaper plastic fixtures. It’s a balancing act. We’ve tuned the output so the surfaces stay warm enough to kill the mold, but not so hot that they ruin your bathroom. But here is the catch: placement is everything. If you leave “cold spots” in the room, the moisture will just migrate there. You’ve got to cover the areas that get the dampest—usually around the shower and the corners of the ceiling. My best advice? Hook them up to a timer or a humidity sensor. That way, they turn off once everything is dry, and you aren’t wasting electricity for no reason.
